Orca Scan started life as a simple barcode scanner app to help a teenager with his summer job and evolved into a no-code barcode system used by 20,000 organisations worldwide. We’re a small, agile team working with over 150k users to iterate the product and need a great developer to help implement their feedback.

What you’ll be doing

Develop new features and fix bugs based on customer feedback
Build UI components using pure JavaScript & W3C Web Components
Contribute to code quality, new tech and architectural design
Write automated tests around UI components to run in CI environments
Help brainstorm solutions to complex user issues (often with users)

What you should have

A good understanding of vanilla JavaScript and the DOM (no frameworks 💪_)_
Working knowledge of build and package tools such as NPM & Gulp
Great attention to detail with an open mind to try new things
Good communications skills (you’ll be troubleshooting with customers)
Ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment 🏃‍♂️
A desire to keep things incredibly simple

Bonus Points

An online portfolio with examples of your work
Some exposure to ES6
A good understanding of PWAs and W3C Web Components
Confident using Git workflows such as branches, PRs and code reviews
Experience writing backend code using node.js

Orca Scan is a B2B SaaS product that makes it easy for anyone to build and deploy an enterprise-scale barcode system without code. Barcodes are all around us, used to track everything from the toothbrush you used this morning to medical implants used to save lives, yet, after 45 years, implementing a barcode system is still overly complex. That’s the problem we’re solving for Apple, Lime, GE and many others.
