Why is inventory tracking important?
Inventory tracking helps companies understand what products they have in stock and in which location. Inventory typically has an impact on a company’s books; carrying too much stock can be a risk. Likewise, discovering you do not have an item in stock when you need it could cost you business, and delays in last-mile delivery can have a similar impact.
How can I use Orca Scan to implement a barcode inventory system?
There are two important points to consider when implementing a barcode inventory system:
- Most products today already have a barcode
- Your entire workforce is already carrying mobile computers (i.e., a smartphone)
Orca Scan leverages these two facts to help you roll out a custom inventory system, company-wide, in minutes.
To get started:
- Download the Orca Scan barcode app
- Create a new sheet using the Inventory Tracking Template
- Scan a barcode on a product
- Enter the quantity (optional location)
- Save the changes
Can I tailor Orca Scan’s Inventory template to my specific business requirements?
Our barcode inventory system is fully customisable so you can tailor the sheet to your tracking needs, including setting up regular stock checks.
You can also share your sheet with teammates, allowing them to search your inventory or scan items into and out of stock from any device. In addition, the barcode history log lets you see how your inventory changes over time by tracking updates from all users.
How can I add items without barcodes into my inventory system?
For inventory items that do not have a barcode, you can design and print barcode labels from the Orca Scan web and mobile applications.
How do I calculate the total price of my Inventory?
Manage the total price of the items you scan by using our formulas feature. We have added a “Price” column and “Total Price” column to our Inventory Tracking Solution sheet, which will automatically use a formula (Quantity * Price) to calculate the total price of each row of your sheet.
Can Orca Scans inventory solution notify me of low stock levels?
Yes! You can keep a closer eye on your stock levels by adding a trigger to notify you (or the sheet admin) of low stock levels. Simply add a “Min Stock Level” column, set the data type to “Number” and “Hidden in mobile”.
Then, create the “Low on stock trigger” as shown below 👇
When the quantity falls below a specific number, the end user will receive an in-app notification warning that the item is “Low on stock”.
