How do I extract VIN values from the barcode?
You can use the following steps to extract values from VIN barcodes using Orca Scan:
- Login to your Orca Scan account
- Create a new sheet
- Create a column for the value you wish to extract
- Set the default value to one of the Orca Variables above
- Save your changes
That's it, now every time you scan or import VIN barcodes, your values will be extracted and moved to the correct columns.
What information does a VIN barcode contain?
A VIN barcode contains the World Manufacturer Index (WMI) which specifies the manufacturing company and manufacturing location of the vehicle, the Vehicle Descriptor Section (VDS) which specifies attributes of the vehicle like engine type and airbag type and the Vehicle Indicator Section (VIS) acting as a unique identifier for each vehicle. The VDS and VIS are assigned by the manufacturer.
